Vietnam launches first 5G park

14 Jan 2021

Vietnam’s first park to gain access to the 5G telecom network is the Yen Phong 1 Industrial Park in northern Bac Ninh province. Viettel launched the advanced network on January 14th.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam affirmed that Vietnam is trying to implement Politburo Resolution No 52-NQ/TW, that would help develop modern digital infrastructure meeting businesses’ digital transformation needs.

Moreover, 5G network will also help new-generation FDI introductions as well as benefitting those projects which require high and green technology.

Viettel will also coordinate with local enterprises. It will also be responsible to look after the needed digital transformation solutions and to apply 5G technology in Tam’s operations.

Bac Ninh authorities were told to help Viettel develop 5G infrastructure at local industrial parks and promote digital transformation, by giving them the critical conditions required. Tam said that this would help develop the province into the capital of innovation in the northern region.

On the other hand, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and many provinces are looking to introduce 5G networks, with telecoms carriers starting to conduct commercial 5G trials. The departments of information and communications of Phu Tho and Binh Phuoc provinces wrote to the Ministry of Information and Communications, proposing the telecommunications businesses to deploy 5G in the provinces.
